Hawthorn House, operated by Alzheimer’s WA, is a pioneering dementia-specific day centre based in the heart of the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Purpose-built in 2014 around the Enabling Household™ model, it offers a homelike, supportive environment for people living with dementia. Set within a welcoming domestic-style home, Hawthorn House focuses on meaningful engagement, social connection, and respite — not only for clients but also their families and carers.

The centre doubles as a lively community hub, encouraging participation from staff, volunteers, families and clients in everyday domestic and creative activities like gardening, cooking, and art programs. With a holistic and inclusive care model, it has received both local and international recognition for its innovative design and person-centred services.
